India is proudly celebrating the 50th year of its independence. The country has passed through many traumas and turmoils during this period. Many communal riots have shattered not only the image of the country abroad, but certainly have not made the ordinary and simple citizens of this great country look at themselves with pride and honour.

Ghulam-E-Musthafa is an attempt by its makers to help its countrymen to unite and treat each other communities with love affection and respect. The story is told in popular genre.

Ghulam-E-Musthafa (Nana Patekar) is an ordinary citizen - an orphan who has been brought up by an underworld Don (Paresh Rawal).

Musthafa fears nobody except God and is full of courage. He is totally devoted to the Don, who is known as ABBA in the film.

Musthafa meets a girl Kavita (Raveena Tandon) a dancer by profession. They fall in love. But before their love can blossom into marriage, Kavita is killed by the rivals of ABBA.

At this point Musthafa loses faith in violence. His attitude undergoes a major change. He leaves his profession and instead swears to protect Mr. Dixit's family (Shivaji Satham and Aruna Irani) who are being threatened by the nexus of underworld and politicians.

Musthafa decides to stay with Dixit's family. So that he can offer them protection. Though initially unwanted, he is finally accepted by the family as one of its very own member.

To help the distressed family Musthafa makes a deal with the politician (Minister Imteyaz) and ABBA. He wins the bye-election for the ruling party and decides to hand over himself to the force of law. But the politicians and the underworld are aware of the fact that Musthafa knows too many of their secrets. The very existence of the politicians and underworld is threatened if Musthafa goes behind bars. They decide to eliminate him and Musthafa accepts the challenge.

The film has a message:
The journey from an ordinary human being to a great human being is the journey through sacrifice. We all have the potential in us to become great human beings like Ghulam-E-Musthafa.

Born as an orphan, upbringing made him an animal, love and affection made him human and sacrifice made him a legend.
